CHFCA welcomes Hatch as new Executive Member
January 11, 2021
The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) is pleased to announce that Hatch has joined as an Executive Member.
Hatch provides management, engineering, advisory, project execution, performance improvement, digital, environmental, earth sciences, and community engagement services. The company’s engineering and project delivery skills cover all phases of activity—conceptualization, design, procurement, construction management, start-up and ramp-up, commissioning, and full operations—all of which is supported by an unparalleled ability to implement novel technologies and upgrade mature operations.
“When combined with recent technology breakthroughs, the lower cost of renewables, and carbon pricing, clean hydrogen is positioned to play a significant role in the energy transition. We’ve been evaluating different pathways for the production of hydrogen for our clients for years, and we’re ready to accelerate the growth of hydrogen on the international stage as we work to tackle climate change,” shared Jim Sarvinis, Managing Director, Power, Hatch.
Hatch is currently providing project management support for the construction of Air Liquide’s 20-megawatt proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen project at the latter’s Bécancour plant located in Québec. Upon completion, the project will be the largest-of-its-kind to produce green hydrogen, producing 3,000 tonnes of hydrogen output annually, and will significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions for the region by nearly 27,000 tonnes annually, the equivalent of more than 107 million kilometres driven by the average passenger car.
The firm has been appointed as the project management and governance facilitator of the Green Hydrogen Consortium formed by Anglo American, BHP, Fortescue, and Hatch which aims to collectively help eliminate the obstacles to the adoption of green hydrogen technologies and encourage its innovative application. Hatch also recently announced its support of the Bruce Innovates Hydrogen Project alongside Plan Group where the firms are providing the feasibility study and business case to advance the foundational hydrogen infrastructure project.
