Canada’s hydrogen sector welcomes new Regional Energy and Resource Tables launched by NrCan

The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) congratulates The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, for the launch of the Regional Energy and Resource Tables as part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to work with provinces, territories and other partners to take advantage of the unprecedented economic opportunities presented by a low-carbon future.

The Regional Energy and Resource Tables will be important fora to empower local hydrogen industries, capitalize on their unique regional strengths, and enable the development of a diverse hydrogen economy across the country. The Regional Tables will be an instrumental tool in the execution of the Hydrogen Strategy for Canada which lays out the roadmap to Canadian Hydrogen leadership with substantial GHG reductions by 2050. One of the main pillars in the Strategy recommendations is the development of regional blueprints; multi-level, collaborative government efforts to facilitate the development of regional hydrogen pathways to identify specific opportunities and plans for hydrogen production and end use.

“We are delighted to see this level of federal-regional partnership,” says Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHFCA. “Canada has the potential to be an economic leader in the global shift towards a low-carbon future, and the hydrogen sector is a perfect enabler to achieve this goal. We will work collaboratively with all levels of government, and across industries, to help achieve our decarbonization goals, while building a thriving economy.”

The CHFCA and its provincial affiliates look forward to working with the Regional Tables and regional leaders to create a path to a low carbon future and seize the economic opportunities that the hydrogen sector present to Canada.
