Canada’s hydrogen sector welcomes new Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles Program
July 19, 2022
OTTAWA – The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) congratulates The Honourable Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, for the launch of the new Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) Program to support Canada’s target of 100% sales of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles by 2040 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Over the next four years, the Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles Program will finance incentives approximately 50% of the price difference between an electric vehicle and a traditional fossil fuel vehicle.
The incentives are applicable to purchase or lease commercial, medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (up to $200,000 per vehicle) and can be combined with provincial and territorial incentives.
Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO, CHFCA:
“This is a major step in enabling the decarbonization of Canada’s second-largest source of pollution, transportation. Canada can become a leader in the adoption of fuel cell technologies for medium and heavy-duty vehicles, while helping create a cleaner environment, industrial growth, and high-quality jobs.”
