The CHFCA and the Government of Canada announce new Hydrogen Production Database

OTTAWA – The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) and ILF Consulting Engineers are pleased to announce the launch of a new database of Canada’s hydrogen production and distribution capabilities.

Developed in collaboration with ILF Consulting Engineers, the database is publicly available for use by project developers, hydrogen users, government and anyone with an interest in the hydrogen economy.

The database provides information on existing, in-progress, and announced hydrogen facilities in Canada and this includes hydrogen production, distribution and usage, carbon intensity and plans for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and additional or new hydrogen production.

The database can accessed on the CHFCA website here.

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources:

“Clean hydrogen is a critical tool in the fight against climate change, enabling the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors including heavy duty transportation and industry, while unlocking a suite of new economic opportunities across Canada. CHFCA and ILF Consulting Engineer’s collaborative effort to build a new hydrogen database is a promising step towards advancing the development of a clean hydrogen economy. This will be an important tool going forward for everyone interested in positioning Canada as a global hydrogen superpower.”

Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO, CHFCA:

“The Hydrogen Production Database will enable further collaboration among hydrogen producers, end users, and project developers in Canada’s value chain. This tool can contribute to the development of vibrant hydrogen ecosystems and centres of economic activity across the country, while helping us reach Canada’s net zero targets.”

Nima Ghazi, Vice, President, Energy and Climate Protection, ILF Consulting Engineers:

“ILF is proud to have been the engineering company chosen to build the first evergreen database of the Canadian hydrogen producers. ILF believes that this work is an important step towards creating a world class hydrogen economy in Canada.”
