Ottawa —The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) is delighted to announce CleanInnoGen Energy Solutions Ltd. as a Startup Member.

CleanInnoGen is an Ottawa-based deep-tech startup dedicated to commercializing a thermochemical process for hydrogen production. The process reached TRL4 and was demonstrated at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River. One of the significant advantages of the process is that it leverages moderator temperature heat to be the primary energy source to produce hydrogen and thus can reduce electricity consumption significantly relative to green hydrogen production through water electrolyzers.

CleanInnoGen targets hard-to-abate industries like cement and steel as initial markets with a small scale of 3-10 tons of hydrogen per day. Such heavy industry clients not only have abundant underutilized heat sources available but can also use hydrogen and oxygen produced on-site in various ways to decarbonize their operations. In the future, CleanInnoGen will further scale the process to a large scale at 100+ tons of hydrogen per day to be part of the future green hydrogen supply chain to support a net-zero society.

CleanInnoGen has been progressing toward the first critical step to commercialize the technology. “We are so happy to see an overwhelming interest in our technology. Meanwhile, we are acutely aware of the challenges of the so-called “death valley” trapping many deep tech startups. That is why we see the value of CHCFA membership that can give us access to more industrial partners who can be instrumental for our success in the early stage commercialization efforts.” said Terry Kimmel, CoFounder & President of CleanInnoGen, who is also a former President of Canadian Hydrogen Association and then VP of CHCFA.

“We are pleased to announce that CleanInnoGen has joined the CHFCA community,” says Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHFCA. “With a rich expertise in engineering, IoT and machine learning, CleanInnoGen brings valuable skills and knowledge to the hydrogen ecosystem. The CHFCA is committed to supporting CleanInnoGen’s efforts and looks forward to working with them towards a sustainable future.”

As a young startup, CleanInnoGen has been widely recognized in the startup ecosystem and demonstrated excellence in execution and high growth potential.
