The City of Coquitlam, located in the heart of Metro Vancouver, is one of the fastest growing communities in BC. The population of Coquitlam is estimated to be 176,000 by 2021 and 224,000 by 2041. Coquitlam’s proximity to Vancouver, access to markets, transportation and housing options, recreation opportunities, a highly educated labour force, open and accessible local government and innovative business community are some of the factors that are driving growth.

Coquitlam is the only community in B.C and one of only six Canadian municipalities to be named a Smart21 Community in 2023. Coquitlam was previously recognized by the ICF in 2021.

Coquitlam is currently evaluating the feasibility of implementing hydrogen fuel cell technology in the city.
